The Galaxy S22, Samsung’s flagship, benefits from a high-end positioning, but some technical aspects reveal significant flaws. Despite its many qualities, several defects can affect the user experience and the durability of the smartphone.

Thermal management issues and processor throttling

One of the major flaws of the Galaxy S22 lies in the management of the heat produced by its Exynos 2200 processor (or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 depending on the region). Under heavy load, especially during prolonged gaming sessions or resource-intensive applications, the device tends to quickly reach high temperatures.

This overheating leads to a phenomenon of throttling, which is an automatic reduction of the processor frequencies to prevent hardware damage. The result is a noticeable drop in performance that can affect user comfort, causing slowdowns and reduced responsiveness.

The thermal dissipation mechanisms integrated into the S22, including a vapor chamber and heat pipes, sometimes struggle to contain the heat effectively, especially in a compact format that limits air circulation. This raises questions about the smartphone’s ability to maintain its performance over time.

Limited battery life and imperfect energy management

The Galaxy S22 features a battery of about 3700 mAh, a relatively modest capacity for a smartphone of this range. Combined with a 120 Hz AMOLED screen and a powerful processor, this configuration generates high energy consumption.

In practice, the battery life proves insufficient to last a full day under intensive use. Software optimization, although improved via One UI 4.1, does not fully compensate for this hardware constraint. Some users report rapid discharge during activities like web browsing, video streaming, or gaming.

Moreover, the management of fast charging is adequate but not exceptional. The included charger often caps at 25 W, which slows down charging times compared to some competitors offering technologies exceeding 50 W.

Stability issues and frequent software bugs

Despite regular updates, the Galaxy S22 is affected by several anomalies in its One UI interface. Application crashes, temporary slowdowns, and bugs related to Bluetooth or Wi-Fi management are regularly reported.

These malfunctions are sometimes linked to the complexity of Samsung’s software overlay, which integrates numerous features and third-party applications. Their coexistence sometimes generates conflicts or memory overloads, impacting overall fluidity.

The time required to fix these bugs can be long, which harms the device’s stability over time, especially for demanding users.

Increased sensitivity to scratches and screen fragility

The Galaxy S22 uses Gorilla Glass Victus+ glass which, although efficient, does not guarantee optimal resistance to scratches and shocks. Some independent tests have shown that the screen remains vulnerable to everyday objects, like keys or metal coins in a pocket.

Additionally, the phone’s polished aluminum frame can easily get damaged with intensive use, which deteriorates the smartphone’s overall aesthetics. This point is all the more sensitive as the glass back is also slippery and prone to fingerprints, often requiring additional protection.

Photo quality in challenging conditions

While the Galaxy S22’s camera module offers excellent performance in optimal lighting conditions, its behavior significantly degrades in low light or high contrast scenes. Digital noise increases, and fine details are less well rendered.

Furthermore, some users have noted inconsistencies in white balance or sometimes overly aggressive HDR processing, resulting in artificial images. These limitations are partly due to the main sensor and software processing, which can struggle in complex lighting conditions.
